Ultrasound is an imperceptible mechanical vibration that can have localized effects on body structures (e.g. bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments). The main applications of ultrasound therapy are in the post-traumatic treatment of sprains, tears and inflammation. However, in cosmetics, in combination with other methods, it is often used to combat cellulite. Useful therapeutic effects are seen in the treatment of pain and sports traumas, in orthopaedics and rehabilitation and in the treatment of cellulitis. Main contraindications concern pacemakers, pregnancy, cancer, intense osteoporosis, varicose veins, genitals and growing bones.
